Linda Quirk, 56, announced her plans to become the first woman to complete the 4 Deserts—a grueling series of ultra-marathons—in under a year. This announcement is a continuation of her efforts to raise funds and awareness for drug and alcohol addiction treatment, something she identifies with after almost losing her stepdaughter to meth addiction.

In response to an Indiana University study that found that Indiana has one of the highest rates in the nation of pregnant women who smoke, drink alcohol, or abuse drugs, a new training DVD for health-care providers has been developed. Experts say the DVD could help lower rates of prenatal tobacco, alcohol, and drug use.

Created and performed by recovering drug addicts, “Dancing with the Crackheadz” is a comical yet inspirational DVD whose proceeds will go toward building a rehabilitation center for drug addicts.
