- Researcher to Study Methamphetamine Use in Austin, Texas
Dr. Jane Maxwell of the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work has received a two-year $418,000 grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse to monitor the use of methamphetamine in the Austin area.
- Meth Addict Charged with Stabbing His Mother to Death
A meth addict who had been living with his mother in Santa Rosa, California, has been sentenced to life in prison for stabbing her to death. Christopher Anthony Lavis, 43, pleaded guilty in October to first-degree murder and two weapon enhancements in the Sept. 27, 2008 slaying of his mother, Constance Elizabeth LaSalle.

In April 2009, the journal Neurology published a study that shows that babies born to mothers who used methamphetamine during pregnancy have an increased risk of abnormal brain development.
